Crossover Musicians

By B.L. Barbour

Today’s musician is not as limited as yesterday’s.  Country artists just like rock and roll or rhythm and blues artists wouldn’t dream of recording outside of their chosen genre.  It was unheard of until recently.  Today you’ll find artists from every genre eagerly crossing into other musical categories. The strangest cross-over that’s taken place is the collaboration of country and hip hop artists.

  1. Georgia Florida Line and Nelly – Cruise
  2. Georgia Florida Line and Jason Derulo & Luke Bryan – This is How We Roll
  3. Georgia Florida Line featuring Will Smith – Get Your Shine On
  4. Nelly featuring Tim McGraw – Over and Over
  5. Luke Bryan & Jason Derulo – Want to Want Me
  6. Luke Bryan, Lil Wayne, Ludacris, Lil Jon – Country Girl
  7. Jason Aldean featuring Ludacris – Dirt Road Anthem
  8. Jason Aldean featuring Waka Flocka and more – Dirt Road Anthem remix
  9. Brantley Gilbert featuring T.I. – Bottoms Up
  10. Brantley Gilbert. Trey Songz, We are Toonz – Bottoms Up MASHUP
  11. Jerrod Neimann featuring Pitbull – Drink to That All Night
  12. Blake Shelton Featuring Birdman & Lil Wyte – Boys Round Here
  13. Eric Church & Kanye West – Springsteen
  14. Kid Rock featuring Hank Williams Jr – Redneck Paradise

This is an impressive roster including today’s top country artists and hip hop artists. It even includes at least one country rap artist producing music with other traditional country music artists.

  1. Colt Ford featuring Jason Aldean – Driving Around Song
  2. Colt Ford featuring JJ Lawhorn – Answer to No One
  3. Colt Ford featuring Jake Owen – Back
  4. Colt Ford featuring Walker Hayes – Dirty Side
  5. JJ Lawhorn featuring Colt Ford – Drop Zone Theme Song
  6. Laura Bell Bundy featuring Colt Ford – Two Step

Given this movement, it’s reasonable to expect that country music will continue embracing other music genres.  Soon country music will truly represent American music as it continues to incorporate all the styles of American music
